Word 2010 Comment

Microsoft Word has always been a crown jewel in the family of Microsoft Office applications. Word 2010 offers lots of enhancements, but is it enough to justify an upgrade?

Microsoft Word is the dominant player in the field of word-processing software, one could argue that it holds virtually monopoly position. Microsoft certainly did get couple of large fines from the regulators for purportedly exploiting it's dominant position. However , it seems that the success of Word is based largely on simply being the best text-editing software on the market. Be that as it may let's have a look at some new features and improvements in Word 2010.

One of the new features is Protected View which greatly boosts security and protection from PC viruses. Fundamentally this new feature permits you to view the documents, but all the macros are switched off. It is turned on when you open files that you downloaded from the Internet or received over e-mail. You can try Word 2010 yourself, simply download free Microsoft Office as a test version.

The critical element of user interface, the all famous Ribbon was noticeably improved. It's been simplified and significantly refined and thus it's now far easier to utilize and beneficial. It is clear that developers at Microsoft have learned their lesson and they accepted that the dramatically modified user interface in Office 2007 was a terrible idea.

The traditional File menu has experienced a superb comeback in Word 2010. However , it's a lot different than the one in Word 2003. After turning on File menu you now get a completely new environment called Backstage. It includes all the options for saving, sharing and printing, so it is sort of useful. A tiny, but extremely helpful improvement is the possibility to paste a bit of text from the Clipboard without formatting, just as plain text. Honestly I've been calling for this feature for some years. It would have saved me a great deal of time. Naturally there are many hundreds of other tiny improvements and tweaks in Word 2010.
