How Most Fear is an Illusion

by Stanley Lang

Hello, I hope you are having a good day. Today I'd like to continue in the series about overcoming fear, particularly as it applies to developing a home business, but also as it applies to any other area of your life. So the ideas that I am going to be sharing with you, you'll be able to use in all the circumstances of your life.

One of the areas that I know isvital to do is to discern how we"rehearse" fear. Many folksspend a lot of time making up scenarios in our minds. What we do in our minds is not that much different froma TV show, or nearer to a soap, where there's plenty of emotion going on. We're characters and at the same timewe're imagining.

Truly, this scenehas not happened. We just are making it up due to some event that's occurred in our lives. And I call this"rehearsing fear." What is going on is that we're really making up a scene that's related to circumstances that we're scared of, and then we actually react emotionally to those scenes. And that really then increases our fear.

One of my favourite Scriptures is where Jesus says to"Be not afraid." I believe this is a vital point because He doesn't say, "Do not have fear." He says"Be not afraid," meaning"Don't do things to raise your fear. Don't be in the state of fear. Don't dwell there mentally." All of us are going to have the sensation of fear occasionally, but we do not have to dwell there. There are things that we are able to do to help us not be afraid.

So one of the things which we are able to start doing is to put other concepts into our minds. I'll teach you a example of how to make that transition from frightening thoughts to other thoughts. One of the things that I believe is vital is that we have to learn how to recognize the moment that we begin to create these frightening scenarios. I have counseled lots of folks over time, and it often takes a couple of minutes before they realize that they are into this other scene that really is not correct; they're just making it up. And so what we want to learnto do is become aware of the moment that we're into this scene of dreadful stuff, whether it is applicable to your familylife or your friendships or business relationships.

The instant that you are brooding about stuff that really has not come true, you are imagining some scenario in the future. Nipping it in the bud is really critical, and at that moment, you can then start to fill your mind with thoughts of thanksgiving. You'll be able to nip the fear in the bud. It just won't continue, because you can't target both things at the same time. You cannot be thankful and fearful at the same time. So fill your mind with thanksgiving when you feel afraid in your work.
